Guidelines to Getting out

Guidelines on Getting Out is one of our most requested resource guides. It was developed by the Discharge Planning Committee, a sub-committee of the Tucson Planning Council for the Homeless, as a response to the large number of people being released in Tucson with no place to live. Our goal was to create a comprehensive resource guide for offenders released to Tucson and have the Arizona Department of Corrections distribute the pamphlets to all the prison facilities to make available to the inmates.  Today, we distribute the pamphlet to the Pima County Jail and other agencies upon request.
The information is invaluable to not only those who have been released from prison or jail, but other homeless people in Tucson who have no resources.  It helps to connect with emergency shelters, transitional housing programs, drug treatment programs, domestic violence agencies, health services, family services, clothing sites, food distribution sites, and employment services.  It also offers tips for finding employment and how to receive bus passes.

Guidelines for Getting Out has recently been updated and expanded with more information on job searching and family reunification. It even includes sample letters to attach to housing and employment applications. We invite everyone to share and distribute this resource widely.

The Old Pueblo Community Foundation has committed to pay for the printing of this valuable resource and offer it to the community.  Printed copies may be picked up at our main office at 4501 E. Fifth Street, Tucson, Arizona 85711.  You may also download the guide by clicking here.
