WE ARE TEN YEARS OLD!
The Old Pueblo Community Foundation is Ten Years Old! Hello friends, here we are again, the start of a new year. I look forward to continue serving as Chief Executive Officer for another year and trying to improve the services provided for the homeless in Tucson.
The Old Pueblo Community Foundation had an explosive growing curve last year. We moved into our new administrative offices at 4501 E. Fifth Street. We added sixty males transitional beds and twelve women’s beds to our Casa Santa Clara transitional programs, procured two more federal grants to help offenders released from prisons. Casa Santa Clara Transitional Living Program began providing six male beds in a duplex on Santa Clara Road near 12th and Valencia in 1996, and have grown to seven facilities around the city providing transitional housing services for men, women, and families with a capacity of serving 175 people on any given day.
Our Housing Development Group, led by Terry Galligan, completed the renovation of eight homes for the elderly and disabled, and completed the High Sierra Estates subdivision, building 24 new homes for low-income working families in July 2006. We have 40 new homes on the drawing board for next year.
We over came the trials and challenges of increasing programs and staff with dwindling funding dollars that all non-profit organizations are facing today. Tucson homeless agencies are known nationally for supporting and educating the homeless to return to work. We must ask our leaders to step up and do the right thing, to find the money to support our social service needs and to find ways to increase homeless beds and create new jobs in Tucson.
Due to the graciousness of your donations and for your continued support, we will continue to be diligent to help the downtrodden in Tucson. Without each other there is no way possible that that we could be as successful as we are today. So let us stand united together and meet the new challenges of the next ten years.
